Karima Deghayli
Graphic and Type Design

During my time at Mind the gap agency, I worked on multiple exhibitions at the Sursock Museum that included working on all the deliverables from the main poster to the pamphlet and social media posts, and the exhibition wall graphics. I also worked on the fundraising campaign designing all the necessary tools.

Exhibitions: Past Disquiet (2018), 10 Stories (2019), Theatre of Operations (2019), Baalbek: Archives of an Eternity (2019).

Baalbeck: Archives of an Eternity

Baris Drogusoz: Theatre of Operations

In the “Theater of Operation” exhibition, Turkish film artist Baris Dogrusoz uses immersive digital environments to re-examine the mapping of military actions in parallel to archeological excavations. Primarily focusing his visual research on the resistive typology of the tunnel, the poster uses typography to bring forth this primordial element.

Ten Stories

“This hang of the permanent collection is conceived as a series of ten stories told by a selection of 21 artists, who at times dialogue with each other around a same theme, and at other times disagree or ignore one another.” – Sursock Museum

Past Disquiet

For the “Past disquiet” exhibition, the artists were exhibiting their findings about a museum in exile for Palestine based in Beirut in 1971. Their search was always interrupted by dead-ends every time they got closer to finding concrete information.
The poster uses typography in order to reflect on this trial and error procedure. Every time the viewer starts reading the list of names enumerated, he/she is instinctively incited to get closer, however having used the typeface Flixel by Just van Rossum, the letters’ particular texture mixed with a dotted grid renders the reading capacity more difficult as you approach the poster.
